Soprano
Hailed by Musical America for “her voice pure and ethereal, her expression embracing and heartfelt”, Elissa Johnston has appeared in a wide range of repertory. Her orchestral engagements include appearances with the Atlanta Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Colorado Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Oregon Bach Festival, San Francisco Contemporary Players and the Pasadena Symphony. Elissa’s performances in the 2010/11 season include Haydn’s Creation with The Los Angeles Master Chorale, Barber’s Knoxville, Summer of 1916 with Jacaranda Music, Bach Christmas Oratorio and Handel’s Messiah with the Telemann Chamber Orchestra in concerts in Tokyo and Osaka, the American premiere of Him Sophy’s The Fall of Angkor with Southwest Chamber Music, Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock and Britten’s The Poet’s Echo with Dilijan Music, David Lang’s Little Match Girl Passion with Jacaranda Music and Schumann songs with Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra on their West Side Connections concert series at the Broad Stage. Recent highlights include Messiaen’s Harawi with pianist Vicki Ray at Jacaranda Music and Pianospheres, Bach’s B Minor Mass with Helmuth Rilling at the USC Thornton School of Music’s 125th Anniversary celebration, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Baroque Conversations concerts led by Monica Huggett, music of Couperín with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Chamber Music Society led by Thomas Adès, and Brahms Requiem with the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Other recent appearances include Handel’s Radamisto with Musica Angelica, Bach solo cantatas 184 and 202 with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Berg’s Lyric Suite with the Denali String Quartet. Elissa appeared in the acclaimed world premiere of SPIRAL XII by Chinary Ung with the Los Angeles Master Chorale at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Previously she sang the world premiere of Aura by Mr. Ung with Grammy Award winning Southwest Chamber Music. She subsequently recorded Aura with SWCM and toured with the ensemble in Vietnam and Cambodia.
Elissa has performed numerous times with the L.A. Philharmonic’s New Music Group, both in Los Angeles and at the Ojai Festival, with conductors Tan Dun, David Zinman, Daniel Harding and Steven Stucky. She made her Lincoln Center debut singing Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes with the New York City Ballet and was subsequently invited back to premiere Morgen!, a set of 10 orchestral songs by Richard Strauss choreographed by Peter Martins. Elissa also appeared in the New York Philharmonic’s Copland Festival and Lincoln Center’s Stravinsky Festival. Her recital appearances include programs at the Aldeburgh Festival in England and at the Aspen Festival’s Winter Music Series with composer Ricky Ian Gordon. Elissa can also be heard on dozens of film soundtracks. She is the featured vocal soloist in Serenata Schizophrana by Danny Elfman which was released on the Sony Classical label and featured on the IMAX release Deep Sea 3D.

Francois CHOUCHAN
Pianist
French pianist/melodist François Chouchan is no stranger to awards and fame. From the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (instructed by Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen and Germaine Mounier) to the Viotti International Piano Competition in Italy, his outstanding talent has been recognized all over Europe. Not only has Chouchan performed as a soloist with orchestras and Chamber Music groups in many countries, but he has also been invited to play during Master Classes by several superior Talents such as M. Rostropovitch, Nikita Magaloff, G.Sebok or Magda Tagliaferro, who all acknowledged his unique sensitivity and creativity.
In Los Angeles, where Chouchan has resided since 2007, he has performed at the LACMA Museum for the “Sundays Live Series”, at UCLA’s Schoenberg Hall, at Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Northridge (with the Music Guild). He has also appeared at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica, at The Zipper Hall and at the Brandeis Institute, and for the Ermitage Foundation.
Chouchan’s deep musical sensibilities. his passion, perseverance and open mind are recognized by professionals and spectators alike who regard him as an inspiring, sensitive and creative musician. He offers a “hip” approach to the classic music and his easy-going attitude and fresh approach to the genre has earned him the affection of fans of all ages, helping develop a younger audience for the art of Chamber Music.
In 2010 he formed Angeles Concerts Artists Corporation and is producing his first series of music concerts
…Le Salon de Musiques…to be held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The Second Season begins on October 16th, 2011 through May 20th, 2012. His unique approach to presenting this intimate “without walls” new Chamber music Concert Series will no doubt take Los Angeles by storm and establish new audiences who will fall in love with his talent as others throughout the world have.

Robert CANI
Violin
Acclaimed throughout the music world as not just a performer, but an “artiste,” Italian violinist Roberto Cani has been hailed by critics as “…a violinist of high caliber following the great Italian tradition of the virtuoso violinist, Paganini.”
Roberto Cani launched his concert career when he won the prestigious Paganini International Competition in Genoa at the age of 21. In the same year, he won the Courcillon International Competition in France, and the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition in Belgrade, where he also captured a special prize for the best performance of a contemporary work. He also won the national Minetti Prize in Italy, and top honors at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow.
In addition to his native Italy, Roberto Cani concertizes throughout the United States as well as Germany, Belgium, Austria, Spain, Russia, Croatia, Poland, Serbia, France, Taiwan, Japan, and South Africa. He is a frequent soloist with orchestras and has performed, most notably, with the Moscow Philharmonic, La Scala Orchestra, RAI Symphony (Italy), Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, Orchestra Cantelli, Belgrade Orchestra, Zagreb Orchestra, and Missouri Chamber Orchestra. Roberto Cani has performed in major music halls worldwide including Los Angeles’ Royce Hall, Belgrade’s Lisinski Hall, Milan’s La Scala, Paris’ Gaveau Hall, Tokyo’s Suntori Hall, and Moscow’s Bolshoi Zal and Tchaikovsky Zal.

Rob BROPHY
Viola
Actively involved in chamber music, viola player Robert Brophy is featured alongside Nigel Kennedy in a quartet for his new release 'Greatest Hits' on the EMI label.
New music is close to his heart and he has worked with many leading composers of the 20th and 21st centuries as a former member of the Enso Quartet. The quartet earned its place in the ensemble world with multiple honors at the 2004 Banff International String Quartet Competition. Robert is featured on two recordings with the Enso Quartet under the Naxos label.
Robert is continuing his quartet life as a member of the New Hollywood String Quartet that has become Quartet in Residence at South Pasadena Library’s ‘Restoration Concert Series’.
Robert also plays regularly with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Opera and has an active presence in many west coast chamber music series.

Rafael RISHIK
Violin
Violinist Rafael Rishik started the violin at age4. At age six he was one of the youngest students ever accepted to the Juilliard School of Music. While growing up in New York City, Mr. Rishik attended the famed Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art. Upon graduation he he continued his studies at Indiana University at Bloomington, completing his graduate studies at U.C. Santa Barbara as the first violinist if the Graduate String Quartet-in- Residence. While at U.C.-Santa Barbara, Mr. Rishik had the rare privelage of being coached in a masterclass by the great Yehudi Menuhin.
Mr. Rishik's principal teachers have been Stuart Canin, Ramy Shevelov, and Sally Thomas. Mr. Rishik has participated in numerous festival, including the Israel Chamber Music Festival, Carmel Bach Festival, Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds, and the Music Academy of the West. Chamber Music has always been a big part of Mr. Rishik's musical life. He spent seven years performing with the Camerata Pacifica, and is a founding member of the New Hollywood String Quartet. The Quartet just celebrated it's 10th anniversary debut concert with guest artist Lynn Harrell. Mr. Rishik has performed with the L.A. Opera is actively involved with the Motion Picture Recording Industry in Los Angeles.

Paul COHEN
Cello
"Especially eloquent" (New Yorker Magazine), "Radiant" (Boston Globe) and "Virtuosic" (Strad Magazine) are but a few of the superlatives which have been used by critics internationally to applaud the artistry of cellist Paul Cohen. Since making his concerto debut at the age of twelve in his native Minneapolis, he has appeared regularly with orchestras throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic. A recital debut at the Philips Collection in Washington D.C., acclaimed performances of the complete cycles of the Beethoven Cello Sonatas and Bach Cello Suites in single formats, and chamber music appearances with the likes of Dawn Upshaw, David Soyer, and Marcus Thompson, round out a career which has been both diverse and adventurous.
Since moving to Los Angeles in 1996 Mr. Cohen has expanded his musical activities to include recording for motion pictures and has participated in Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning film scores by John Williams, Michael Nyman, and James Horner.
A dedicated and inspiring teacher, Mr. Cohen has lead a class of cellists at Amherst College, been guest artist at the Aspen Music Festival and served as Artist-in-Residence at Emory University, Keene College, and the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music. Honors have come in the form of a Fischoff chamber Music Prize, the prestigious C.D. Jackson Master Award at the Tanglewood Festival, and a 1996 Individual Artist Fellowhip by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts. Mr. Cohen is a recording artist for Centaur Records.
