Rina DOKSHITSKY
Piano
Israeli pianist Rina Dokshitsky was born to a musical environment and exhibited extraordinary talent at an early age, when she began to play the pieces she heard by ear. Her mother, a pianist, and her uncle, Eliahu Shulman, a well-known Israeli violinist, were strong influences upon the young and naturally gifted musician. Ms. Dokshitsky’s playing today is brilliantly virtuosic and her powerful interpretations are both noble and deeply rooted in the earth. Her performances are met with enraptured silence and then uproarious standing ovations.
Ms. Dokshitsky began her piano studies with Ilona Vincze and attended Thelma Yelin School for the Arts in Tel Aviv. She gave her first solo appearance at age twelve in Tel Aviv and, at thirteen, performed Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. At fifteen she won first prize at the International Competition for Young Pianists in Senigallia, Italy. Rina gave her debut recitals at the 92nd Street Y in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. At the age of sixteen her mother was finally willing to see her daughter leave home and pursue her education in the United States. Rina began studying with Russell Sherman at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where she was offered a full scholarship for eight years, during which she received a Bachelor of Music, a Master of Music in piano performance and a distinguished Artist Diploma. Other renowned pianists with whom she subsequently studied in master classes throughout the U.S. were Gina Bachauer, Menahem Pressler and Claude Franck.
At age twenty-one Rina won first prize at the highly prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York City. This award launched Rina's international performance career with numerous concerts throughout the United States and the world. Other awards soon followed, including first prize at the Jerusalem Symphony Competition. At age twenty-three Rina gained fifth place prize at the International Arthur Rubinstein Piano Competition. This prize lead to the Canada Israel Award for Best Israeli Performer and an eight-year scholarship award from the America Israel Cultural Foundation.
